Peter Schmuck's final grades for the 2012 Orioles
Baltimore Sun columnist Peter Schmuck offers his final grades for the Orioles' 2012 season. Schmuck's grades are based on each player's performance in relation to his role on the team, his total playing time and his talent level. So, a utilityman who gets a "B" after playing a limited number of games is being graded essentially against himself, not against his teammates or in relation to similar players on other teams.

Jake Arrieta
Opening Day starter fell on hard times and headed back to the minor leagues. Returned as middle reliever and made a contribution down the stretch, but hard to gloss over 3-9 record and 6.20 ERA.

Wieters gets a B- (please, please, please, will just one Baltimore writer admit that he's been an offensive disappointment? Just one?). Jones gets a B (32 homers and only 82 RBI not good for all those AB's).
In the end, they came up as your average everyday choking losers. Peed their pants whenever they had to face the bad old Yankees. The goal is to win the World Series. Period. As the Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe once proclaimed, " Any team that loses in the playoffs, only accomplished one thing. They practiced longer then the teams that didn't." Here's a suggestion, maybe the Orioles could have maintained their competitive edge by NOT celebrating their win over Texas. Maybe putting a one game wild card win into perspective, may have been what was needed to ensure a let down wasn't experienced. Save the celebrating for when you actually win a WS championship and not some other made up, lame O , money sucking playoff title.
One writer handing out grades is enough. Please.
