It seems like only yesterday that we were extolling the virtues of the Orioles' rejuvenated starting rotation.
Actually, it probably was yesterday, but a lot has happened since the Orioles arrived at Fenway Park for Sunday's 17-inning surreal series finale against the Boston Red Sox. Tommy Hunter, who started that game, was sent back to the minor leagues on Monday and Brian Matusz just got hammered for seven runs and 10 hits over five innings in the opener of a four-game series against the Texas Rangers at Oriole Park.
Suddenly, the starting rotation is looking a bit fragile. No one is scheduled yet for Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays and Matusz -- who figures to go Saturday -- remains something of a mystery. He seemed to be regaining his command over the past few starts, but got knocked around pretty good tonight by the Rangers in general and former Oriole Brandon Snyder (five RBI) in particular.
Maybe the Orioles should have stayed in Boston for a few more days.
