Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was still at the club's spring training complex well after his teammates had left late Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by marketing types and makeup people as he took part in a photo shoot for the New Era baseball cap company.
He has become a big national star very quickly, but he said that he did not feel uncomfortable in that setting and is enjoying the opportunity to expand his national profile on several platforms.
"I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable,'' he said. "I think it's great. I think it's awesome. It's something that I've always dreamed about. Growing up as a kid, you look at all these commercials and you see all these big-league guys doing this, doing that on billboards, and it's like 'Wow, man, that's pretty cool.'
"You're like star-struck by it. And now to be in the position I'm in. I'm doing photo shoots, doing commercials ... it's overwhelming, but it's great. It's awesome. I love it."Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
