Manager Buck Showalter is famous for the way he can manipulate a roster to the greatest possible benefit for his team, an underrated talent that was on display for much of last season. He had to work some more of that roster magic over the past week with the strange confluence of Jason Hammel's illness and Miguel Gonzalez's paternity leave. The results weren't so good when he plugged Jake Arrieta into Monday night's start against the Tigers, but Zach Britton (pictured) came up to pitch effectively Tuesday night and make it possible for the Orioles to win another series against a very difficult opponent. Showalter would likely point out that he didn't have much choice in the matter, but it's not a coincidence that he seems to be pushing most of the right buttons again this year.
