Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette has issued an apology to the Korean Baseball Organization and the Korean Baseball Association for not going through the proper channels to sign top Korean baseball prospect Seong-Min Kim. That's a smart move, since the O's apparently don't consider the Kim signing a one-shot deal.

The Orioles were supposed to do a "status check" through the Commissioner's Office to ascertain the contract eligibility of any Korean player. It was a minor breach of protocol, but obviously it was viewed as a sign of disrespect toward the Korean baseball organizations. Duquette issued the apology because he was hoping to establish a long-term scouting presence in South Korea. Don't know if it will be enough, but I'm not to concerned.

The ban on Orioles scouts will eventually be lifted and time will heal this wound. And, anyway, the Orioles got their young man, and it will probably be quite a while before another opportunity like that comes along.
