Designated and pinch hitters

The Orioles got solid production from the designated hitter slot last week, beginning with <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000010316" title="Ronny Paulino" href="/topic/sports/baseball/ronny-paulino-PESPT000010316.topic">Ronny Paulino</a>'s (pictured) decisive single in extra innings against the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000005" title="Boston Red Sox" href="/topic/sports/baseball/boston-red-sox-ORSPT000005.topic">Red Sox</a> on Tuesday night. That was a particularly big hit, because it started the O's on an uplifting 4-2 run that pulled them out of a frustrating slump. Overall, DH's -- buoyed by two productive games from <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000009997" title="Chris Davis" href="/topic/sports/baseball/chris-davis-PESPT000009997.topic">Chris Davis</a> and a three-hit performance by <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000010503" title="Matt Wieters" href="/topic/sports/baseball/matt-wieters-PESPT000010503.topic">Matt Wieters</a> on Sunday -- batted a combined .375 with a home run and five RBIs. Pinch hitters, however, were 0-for-3 with a walk.
