The bottom line

The Orioles needed to regroup last week and that's what they did, though it's hard to be too upbeat about a 4-3 week that started and ended with such discouraging late-inning letdowns. Still, the starting rotation got back on track and the bats heated up to take some pressure off the pitching staff. The bullpen clearly is in crisis going into a four-game home-and-home series against the Washington Nationals, but there also were several positive developments, from the Gausman debut to the unstoppable force that is Manny Machado to the latest power surge by Adam Jones. Keep the faith.
