For some people, this weekend is about love, romantic activities and expensive gifts. But for the ones who love basketball, the next three days are all about NBA All-Star Weekend.
That's right! The NBA's best take over New Orleans along with 50,000 other people for a weekend filled with events, performances, fun and games.
So what can you expect? Everything and more!
For starters, funnyman Kevin Hart is on a mission to become a three-time MVP of the celebrity game. He will play with and against the likes of Chicago's own U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, actor Michael B. Jordan and WNBA and former Notre Dame star Skylar Diggins, to name a few.
The Rising Stars Challenge will also help kick off the weekend. Another Chicago native, New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis, is sure to shine as the sophomores and rookies prep us for what's to come.
Next is what might be the most entertaining night of all: the Three-Point and Slam Dunk Contests (and the Shooting Stars and Skills Challenge, if you care). In addition to seeing your favorite celebrities and past/present players dressed in their best leather pants, expensive jewelry and tightest shirts (side eye to Dwyane Wade and Russell Westbrook), you'll also witness some of the best shooters and most electrifying dunks ever.
While Friday and Saturday serve as appetizers, Sunday is the main course—the All-Star Game itself. Bulls center Joakim Noah is set to make his second All-Star appearance, in addition to the usuals and some newcomers such as Stephen Curry and John Wall. On top of seeing off-the-backboard dunks, behind-the-back passes and half-court shots, the game will hopefully end with a win by the East.
Did I mention Kendrick Lamar is set to annihilate the stage, and Pharrell and his park ranger hat will perform "Happy" this weekend as well? Win!
So instead of a box of stale chocolates, deflated balloons and a Hallmark card, let's just all enjoy the rich dessert that is NBA All-Star Weekend.
