Weekend Wrap: Terps recruit Jacquille Veii unstoppable in Avalon rout

Maryland athlete recruit Jacquille Veii found the end zone three times in the first half Friday night.

Veii, a 5-foot-10, 174-pound senior, rushed seven times for 85 yards in Avalon's 44-0 win over the Maryland School for the Deaf.

Veii's first touchdown came on a counter play that he bounced outside, scampering 26 yards for the score to give Avalon an early 14-0 lead. A little more than a minute later, Veii again took the handoff and burst through the middle of the line, this time carrying the ball 49 yards for the score. Two possessions later, the senior was on the receiving end of a swing pass from quarterback Wyatt Karem which he took 17 yards to the end zone to give the Black Knights (1-1) a commanding 28-0 lead early in the second quarter.

** Terps running back commitment DeAndre Lane powered Catonsville to a 28-21 win over Perry Hall.

Lane (25 carries, 173 yards) ran for the two-point conversion with 1:04 left in the third quarter and set up the dramatic final quarter.

** Maryland-bound running back Richy Anderson rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns in Thomas Johnson's 35-0 win over Liberty.

He scored on runs of 24 and 1 yard.

Anderson also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Josh McClain.

** UM wide receiver pledge Deon Long helped Iowa Western Community College to a 44-20 win over Trinity Valley.

Long has eight TD receptions in his first three games at IWCC. One week after catching 20 passes for 246 yards, he finished Saturday with seven receptions for 110 yards and the three scores.

** Terps quarterback recruit Shane Cockerille rushed for the game-winning 1-yard touchdown run in Gilman's win over New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep.

The Greyhounds rushed six straight times. Bijan Rhett gained 25 yards on three carries. Then Cockerille ran the last three, including a 1-yard touchdown up the middle with 4:27 left to put the Greyhounds ahead 12-6. Wey added the extra point for the final margin.
