BROWNSBURG - One of the best weeks of the year for local drivers can also be one of its most treterous.
Sprint Week involves a number of tracks in a short amount of time as Indiana drivers showcase their skils throught the state.
Kevin Thomas is one of those drivers going through the grind. He's raced in Gas City, Lawrenceburg and Kokomo over the past five days, enduring a collection of finishes that have produced disappointment and success.
But Tuesday was a bit of a chance to breathe.
Thomas was one of the many drivers who participated in the Sprint Week "Super Bowl" at the Brownsburg Bowl. The event is held as a chance to meet with fans, raise money for charity and enjoy a small break in a busy week.
"I glad everybody showed up and all the drivers supported this," said Thomas of the event. "It really goes to a good cause and I'm glad to be here."
Benefitting from the event is Riley Hospital for Children who received proceeds of the fees to bowl along with toys collected from participants.
Driver Robert Ballou helped to start the event with other drivers in 2011 as a way to reach out charitably along with getting a chance to interact with the many fans of the sport.
"We just wanted to do something to give back a little bit to the fans and Riley Children's Hospital," said Ballou.
For Thomas, it does a lot for the drivers too.
"We really haven't done this in the past and its cool to everybody put forth the effort," said Thomas.
