Pat Angerer will miss six weeks with fractured foot

The Colts linebacker was injured in the preseason opener against the Rams on Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS - The Chuck Pagano Era of Colts football has its first major injury, but it won't keep one of the team's biggest impact defenders out for the season.

On a conference call Monday afternoon Pagano confirmed that starting middle linebacker Pat Angerer has a fractured foot and will miss the next six weeks.

He was injured early in the Colts' 38-3 pre-season victory over the Rams Sunday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium. Angerer was on the bench in the second half with a boot on his injured footl.

Pagano was quick to say, however, that he expects Angerer to return this season without problem.

Drafted in the second round in 2010 from Iowa, Angerer found playing time quickly as a backup to starter Gary Brackett. When he went out for the season with a shoulder injury in the 2011 opener at Houston, Angerer assumed the starting role and led the club with 148 tackles.

In the meantime the coach said they will replace him with players already in house including Mario Addison, Greg Lloyd, Moise Fokou and Jerrell Freeman. Pagano, however, would not rule out the team looking outside the franchise for a temporary replacement.
