Lawrence Central stays on track in Class 5A

INDIANAPOLIS - With Carmel and Warren Central battling on the same side of the bracket, Lawrence Central had to take care of business on theirs.

In the way on Friday in their first round Sectional 5 match-up was Southport, who they bested at home 47-6 on September 28th.

Head coach Jayson West's team would have no letdown in the repeat game as the Bears jumped to an early lead to secure a second win over the Cardinals at home 34-14 on Friday night.

Lawrence Central will now face Warren Central at home next Friday in the second round of the sectional, whom they beat earlier in the season at home 42-6 on August 31st.

Quarterback Drake Christen got things started on the right foot as he ran a bootleg to perfection early in the first quarter, scoring from 6-yards out to make it 7-0 Bears. Alex Gonzalez made it 14-0 on the following drive as he sprinted past defenders from 21-yards out.

That would end up being enough for the Bears defense who kept Southport under control the rest of the way to set up the match-up with the Warriors.
