Lancaster's sneak gives Butler another win

INDIANAPOLIS - Staying alive for a championship took not one but two rallies on Saturday afternoon along with a quarterback with the ability to dive.

Butler fell behind early by ten and then again by three in the final quarter but still managed to rally to stay undefeated in the Pioneer Football Conference with the 19-16 victory over Jacksonville at the Butler Bowl.

Quarterback Matt Lancaster's one-yard touchdown run with two seconds to go gave Butler the lead for good and improved their conference record to 7-0 and clinched a share of their second PFL title in four years.

If Butler wins next week at Drake, they will win the conference outright.

At times it looked as if that possibility wouldn't be a good one for Butler who fell behind in the second quarter by ten after a field goal and touchdown run by Johnnie Hicks.

Lancaster got the Bulldogs on the board with a touchdown pass to Dylan Johnson to cut the lead to 10-7. The Dolphins got a field goal before the half pushed the lead back to six.

The Bulldogs got things to even in the third when Lancaster hit Zack Wolfe for a three-yard touchdown to tie it at 13. Yet Jacksonville countered with another Dylan Lynch field goal to grab a 16-13 lead.

It stood with 2:55 to go in the fourth when the Bulldogs made their run. Lancaster drove the team down the field 95 yards in 14 plays and finished it off with a touchdown sneak from a yard out with two seconds left.
