New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman hit the free agency market after declining a three-year offer to remain with the AFC East franchise.
He has taken one visit with the San Francisco 49ers.
Sources say the Ravens have definite interest in Edelman. However, nothing has developed yet into a visit or contract offer. Until Tuesday, Edelman was regarded as a strong candidate to remain with the Patriots.
The Ravens are concentrating on trying to sign veteran wide receiver Steve Smith, but also have a high opinion of Edelman and Emmanuel Sanders. They have yet to get involved with Sanders, who has visited the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs, according to sources.
Sanders visits the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.
Edelman fits the Ravens’ profile for a productive slot wide receiver who has sure hands and runs well after the catch.
Edelman emerged as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s favorite target last season, catching a career-high 105 passes for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns.
A former quarterback at Kent State, Edelman has caught 174 career passes for 1,770 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Edelman, 27, caught seven passes for 77 yards during a 41-7 win over the Ravens in December at M&T Bank Stadium.
