Courtney Upshaw says he's back at practice after passing conditioning test

Ravens rookie linebacker Courtney Upshaw says that he's back at practice after passing his conditioning test yesterday.

Upshaw was initially placed on the non-football injuy list and missed the Ravens' first walk-through practice yesterday, but he said that he passed the test and practiced later in the day.

Upshaw said on Twitter: ""Yes I missed 1st walk through because of condition test but went back and passed it the same day to make it to the 1st practice Yesterday!!!"

Undrafted rookie free agent tight end Bruce Figgins is also no longer on non-football injury list, which is a sign that he also has since passed the conditioning test.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh is scheduled to speak to reporters later today following the team’s first training camp practice for quarterbacks, rookies and players coming off injuries.

Upshaw, the Ravens’ first pick in April’s draft, is the projected starter in the linebacker spot vacated by Jarret Johnson.

As expected, linebacker Terrell Suggs (Achilles) was placed on the non-football injury list. Suggs, who had his torn right Achilles surgically repaired in early May, is expected to miss a good part – if not all – of the 2012-13 season.

The Ravens also placed rookie guard/tackle Kelechi Osemele, tackle Jah Reid, defensive end Pernell McPhee and wide receiver/kick returner David Reed on the physically unable to perform list. None of those are considered surprises.

Osemele, a second-round pick in April who is expected to compete with veteran Bobbie Williams for the starting left guard job, sat out the final couple of weeks of the organized team activities with a leg injury. He has said it’s not serious and he tweeted earlier this week that he had passed the team’s conditioning test.

Reid, a second-year player who is line to back up Michael Oher at right tackle, was carted off the field during the mandatory veteran minicamp with a calf injury. McPhee, who will likely share starting defensive end responsibilities with Arthur Jones, had a minor procedure on his knee earlier this offseason. Reed, who will likely need a strong training camp to make the team, had knee surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a game last December.

Players placed on the non-football injury and PUP lists can be removed at any time.
