Ravens' Terrence Cody off crutches after offseason hip surgery

Ravens nose guard Terrence Cody is off crutches and making a sound recovery from offseason hip surgery, coach John Harbaugh says.

"He looks great," Harbaugh said. "He was walking around without the crutches. He looked really good."

Although Cody is expected to be sidelined for the Ravens' offseason activities, the 2010 second-round draft pick is expected to make a full recovery by training camp.

Cody is coming off a rough season, starting just three games and dipping to 25 tackles, no sacks, no forced fumbles and no fumble recoveries with one pass deflection. He was replaced in the starting lineup by veteran Ma'ake Kemoeatu. Cody also dealt with an elbow injury last season.

The former Alabama consensus All-American had started every game the previous season and registered a career-high 34 tackles. The former Alabama All-American graded out for the season with a minus-6.5, according to Pro Football Focus, which gave Cody the lowest grade among the Ravens' defensive linemen.

With the Ravens drafting Missouri Southern defensive tackle Brandon Williams, a 6-foot-1, 335-pound Division II All-American who bench pressed 225 pounds 38 times at the NFL scouting combine, in the third round, Cody will now face competition inside.

Harbaugh envisions a deep rotation along the defensive line after the Super Bowl champions signed Chris Canty and Marcus Spears in the offseason to go with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. Ngata could shift inside to nose guard on occasion, too.

"We will have a nice little rotation at defensive tackle," Harbaugh said. "Haloti bumps inside a little more now than he did in the past, because we added Marcus and Chris. We have really bolstered our front seven big-time.

"I just think we are going to be deep. DeAngelo [Tyson] is still in the mix there. We are going to have a nice rotation upfront. It’s going to be a very formidable group up front."
