Ravens Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs is active for today's game against the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium.
Suggs conducted a brief warmup this morning with coach John Harbaugh and trainers watching before returning to the locker room, jogging around the field, doing lateral movement exercises and stretching.
He didn't appear to be in any discomfort while lumbering around the field.
Suggs appears to be heavier than his usual playing weight of 260 pounds.
The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was moved to the active roster from the reserve/non-football injury list Saturday as the defending AFC North champions placed former second-round outside linebaker Sergio Kindle on waivers.
Suggs started practicing Wednesday, but his activity level has been low during the three days of workouts.
He partially tore his right Achilles tendon in late April during the NFL draft and had it repaired by Dr. Robert Anderson, a Charlotte, N.C., specialist, on May 8.
Suggs has repeatedly said the new procedure should accelerate the process and that his tear was higher up toward the calf muscle.
The Ravens' pass rush has languished without Suggs in the lineup.
He recorded 14 sacks and seven forced fumbles last season, but his teammates have just 10 sacks in six games this season.
"They don't have an individual pass rusher right now without Suggs," NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell said in a telephone interview. "I really like Paul Kruger as a player, but Kruger is not a pure pass rusher. Haloti Ngata is an inside pass rusher, but not a pure one like [the Texans'] J.J. Watt is. He's a different
kind of player."
NOTES: The Ravens inactives are: CB Asa Jackson, TE Billy Bajema, OL Jah Reid & Ramon Harewood, NT Ma'ake Kemoeatu, WR/KR Deonte Thompson, RB Bobby Rainey. Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph (groin) is active today. The Texans scratched cornerback Roc Carmichael, safety Quintin Demps, offensive tackle Andrew Gardner, guard Cody White, defensive end David Hunter, guard Brandon Brooks and linebacker Barrett Ruud.
