An arduous task awaits the Ravens' offensive line Monday night: blocking a defensive line headlined by aggressive defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. The Ravens' interior offensive line, comprised of center Gino Gradkowski, left guard A.Q. Shipley and right guard Marshal Yanda, face a severe test against Suh and Fairley, two large, productive defensive linemen. What the Ravens can try to do is run quick-hitting plays, misdirection, block at angles and perhaps even attempt some designed roll-out plays for quarterback Joe Flacco if the pocket is collapsing. The Lions' defensive ends, rookie Ezekial Ansah, who leads the team with seven sacks, and Willie Young are both good players. So, it doesn't start and end with Suh and Fairley inside. By continuing to run the football, it can keep a defense honest and make them respect play-action fakes.
