Steelers' loss a point of emphasis for players

Lest anyone outside the Ravens take the Houston Texans for granted, the players said Wednesday that they won’t overlook the Texans even though the Ravens finished with a better record and earned the right to play Sunday’s AFC divisional contest at M&T Bank Stadium, where they are 8-0 in 2011.

The Ravens have only to recall the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 29-23 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday to remind themselves of the instability of the postseason.

“Eight-and-0 was regular season -- a great thing that we did, to do that for the first time in Ravens history, since I’ve been here. But at the same time, none of that matters now,” inside linebacker Ray Lewis said. “Wild-card weekend kind of proved that. An 8-8 team [Denver] beat a 12-4 team [Pittsburgh], not a 9-7 team. You get into all that, and you realize that everybody is 0-0 again. Now it’s about attention to detail about this week, and this week is the only week that matters.”

Added outside linebacker Terrell Suggs: “There’s never a wake-up call. I’ve won in the playoffs, and I’ve lost in the playoffs. So the possibility of losing, that never escapes us. We know we’ve got to perform.”
