The Minnesota Vikings have been granted permission to interview Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner for the same job, according to a league source.

Turner is under contract with the Browns, but the team is taking a liberal approach with the coaching staff of fired coach Rob Chudzinski.

The Ravens have a great deal of respect for Turner, but they have yet to reach out to him for an interview. He's regarded as the top offensive coordinator available, but is known for being very attached to his offensive system.

Turner worked with new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer when they were with the Dallas Cowboys.

Turner has significant experience as an offensive coordinator and was a head coach in the NFL for 14 seasons, most recently for six seasons as head coach of the San Diego Chargers.

Turner was also a head coach of the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders and has been an offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Chargers and Dallas Cowboys.

The Ravens have a deep pool of candidates to choose from, even with Turner expected to join Zimmer in Minnesota and Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo taking the New York Giants' offensive coordinator post after the Ravens requested permission to interview him.

Former Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak fits the profile as a run-oriented coach who has an extensive background in the NFL.

Other potential candidates include Chudzinski and Kansas City Chiefs spread-game analyst Brad Childress, who worked with coach John Harbaugh on Andy Reid's Philadelphia Eagles staff.

The top internal candidate is wide receivers coach Jim Hostler, who was the 49ers' offensive coordinator for one season when they finished last in total offense and scoring.

Chudzinski, who the Browns fired last month after one season as their head coach, and Kubiak, fired by the Texans in early December, also have good relationships with Harbaugh and NFL experience as an offensive coordinator.
