Ravens met with Minnesota defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman, source says

The Ravens conducted a formal interview with Minnesota defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman, according to a source.

Hageman is one of the most physically impressive defensive linemen in the draft. The 6-foot-6, 318-pound player ran the 40-yard dash in 5.02 seconds.

He bench pressed 225 pounds 32 times and registered a 35 1/2 inch vertical leap. And Hageman excelled in the positional drills, displaying rare agility for a player of his dimensions.

Hageman bench presses 475 pounds and is flexible enough to operate in 3-4 or 4-3 schemes.

"I definitely use my basketball skills when it comes to playing football," Hageman said. "But I feel like me being athletic definitely helped me get to where I am. But I feel like in the NFL, I feel like everyone in the NFL is athletic. So, I definitely have to kind of stay to my fundamentals to get better.”

Hageman could potentially provide a replacement for defensive tackle Arthur Jones if he leaves via free agency. Jones is expected to command a heavy price in free agency and isn't expected to return to the Ravens, according to sources.

Hageman says he tries to emulate NFL defensive linemen Ndamukong Suh and J.J. Watt.

Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta praised Hageman for his work at the Senior Bowl.

Hageman had 34 tackles last season including 11 for losses, one interception, eight pass deflections and one fumble recovery. He blocked a field goal attempt and an extra point attempt.

The primary knock on Hageman is his lack of consistency. He didn't start until his junior year, during which he had six sacks.

"I’ve just got to stop thinking," Hageman said. "Me obviously playing defensive tackle for three years, I’ve developed flaws. When it comes to that, it’s definitely overthinking. And then when I overthink, I feel like I’m not doing something right.

"I’m always freezing up. So, I feel like once I get a better sense of just educating myself on defensive tackle and just what to look for on the o-line, I’ll be able to stop thinking and just play.”
