In the aftermath of losing two fumbles on kick returns in the Ravens’ 22-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 13, David Reed was instructed to work with running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery on addressing his issues with ball security.
On Thursday, special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg provided an update of Reed’s progress in that department.
“The drills have been really productive,” Rosburg said during his weekly media briefing Thursday. “Wilbert is really good at this, and he’s been grinding on David. What I see happening now is, I see him taking the drills to practice. So when we kick the ball when we have kickoff return drills, I see him paying attention to the details.”
Strong safety Tom Zbikowski has been the team’s primary kick returner in the four games since Reed’s gaffes, but Rosburg said Reed can regain his starting job.
“From the very start, as soon as we’re ready to use him, we’ll use him,” Rosburg said.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
