Former Morgan State cornerback Joe Rankin is participating in the Ravens' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to a source.
Rankin auditioned for the Ravens at their local prospects day and also participated in the NFL super regional combine at the Detroit Lions' Ford Field.
Rankin ran the 40-yard dash in the range of 4.4 to 4.5 seconds and bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times at his Pro Day.
Rankin intercepted 13 career passes for his career, two short of tying Joe Fowlkes' school record.
Against Delaware State last season, Rankin had eight solo tackles, an interception and blocked an extra point and a field goal. He finished the season with 57 tackles, three for losses, three interceptions and a forced fumble.
As a junior, the second-team all-conference selection had five interceptions, 11 pass deflections, 46 tackles and a blocked field goal. He also intercepted three passes as a sophomore.
Rankin played high school football at Seneca Valley, where he intercepted seven passes as a junior and returned three for touchdowns. As a senior, he led the team in rushing and kick return yardage.
The Ravens invited several players to minicamp on a tryout basis, including Wake Forest quarterback Tanner Price, former Houston Texans tight end Phillip Supernaw, Old Dominion offensive lineman Jack Lowney, Boston College tight end Frank Sinkovec, Georgetown strong safety Dustin Wharton, Tennessee-Martin outside linebacker D.J. Roberts, Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, Rutgers offensive guard Antwan Lowery, Marshall defensive end Jeremiah Taylor, SMU wide receiver Jeremy Johnson, Miami (Ohio) linebacker Chris Wade, Idaho fullback-tight end Michael LaGrone and UNLV wide receiver Jerry Rice Jr. … Defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore, who was unable to play as a rookie last season with the Ravens due to tearing his anterior cruciate ligament as a senior at Notre Dame, is practicing at the minicamp along with former Maryland tight end Matt Furstenburg and former Towson wide receiver Gerrard Sheppard. Furstenburg and Sheppard were on the Ravens’ practice squad last season … Fourth-round defensive end Brent Urban isn’t practicing yet after undergoing ankle surgery in February, but is expected to increase his activity by late May, early June and be fully ready by training camp.
