Since the calamity of having a punt blocked in the first game due to a missed blocking assignment, the Ravens punt team has bounced back in a major way.

Punter Sam Koch ranks third in the NFL with a 48.9 average with seven punts downed inside opponents' 20-yard line.

"I'm hitting them well," said Koch, a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010. "I think I can hit them a lot better."

Last season, Koch set a franchise record with a career-high 47.1 gross average with 28 punts placed inside the 20-yard line. He also set a record with a 40.8 net average. He owns the Ravens' franchise records with 584 punts for 26,163 yards and a 44.8 career gross a verage, 38.8 net average and 205 punts downed inside opponents' 20-yard line.

So far this season, Koch has a 42.1 net average. During a 23-20 loss to the Bills, Koch averaged 47.3 yards.

"The last game, I hit them OK," Koch said. "I thought we can put them in place on a wide field with a little more hangtime and closer to the sideline, so I can do more to help out our gunners in the future. It's stuff we take a lot of pride in our punt team.

"We do our due diligence with John Harbaugh and Jerry Rosburg and everyone to put guys in the right spots so we can see those types of looks in practice. We're taking the right strides to make sure we can see every call."

The Ravens' special teams could get a boost this week from former Cincinnati Bengals safety Jeromy Miles, who was inactive against the Bills to rest a hamstring injury.

"That will be great if he gets out there," Koch said. "It should be fun to see."
