Ravens outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw was in a hurry to catch a plane when coach John Harbaugh dismissed the team for the bye.
His destination was a return home to Alabama, and he had important people to see. Namely, his young daughter and his family.
"Honestly, I'm going home to Alabama to be with my daughter and spend time with her and my family down there," said Upshaw, a former consensus All-American at Alabama. "I'll catch the Tennessee game. Other than that, it's relaxation for me, chill.
"I'm not trying to go do anything crazy. Honestly, it's about my daughter. I've been waiting for this bye week for a while to see my daughter."
Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach got ready quickly and headed out of the locker room to catch a flight back to his home in North Carolina.
"It's always good to get out of town," Leach said. "Everybody needs to get away from football and spend some time with your family."
Not every player is heading out of town for the next four days, though. Many players will remain in the area for treatment, workouts and extra time studying the playbook.
That includes new left offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, who was acquired in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars and has started the past two games.
"I'll be in town here continuing to work out and start game-planning the next opponent," Monroe said. "I'll be here just hanging around, spending time with my family."
The Ravens' next game is Nov. 3 at the Cleveland Browns.
"Every team presents a unique challenge," Monroe said. "Preparing for them will be no different than preparing for anyone else. I treat them all the same."
Harbaugh said the Ravens had two positive days of practice this week before being given time off and then returning to work next Monday.
"The guys worked hard, did a good job," Harbaugh said. "We feel good about that. Their spirits were very good. The effort was very good.
"Now, we’ll give them the time required off, but also the time needed off to rest and recover, and then we’ll get back to work on Cleveland on Monday.”
