Handing out turkeys and pumpkin pies Tuesday night at Booker T. Washington Middle School in Baltimore, Ravens free safety Ed Reed said he never forgets his humble roots growing up in Louisiana.

"I'm from neighborhoods like this one in the inner city," Reed said. "I had mentors who helped me to get to where I am today. That speaks volumes for me and my life. We just want to make sure as many families as we can have a great Thanksgiving.

"It's just awesome man. This is what Thanksgiving is about: the people and families that you remember, seeing those smiles knowing that you're helping someone be happy. It's about helping the community, helping kids, trying to help the world."

Ravens players, including backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, cornerback Lardarius Webb, middle linebacker Jameel McClain and others, participated in several different Thanksgiving events in the community on Tuesday located throughout the city of Baltimore.

Posing for photographs, signing autographs and handing out holiday packages, wide receiver Anquan Boldin and cornerback Cary Williams supported Reed at his annual event.

"We're trying to give back, and this is a great thing Ed put on," Boldin said. "They really do appreciate it. We're blessed. We have more than enough. It's only right we give back to the community. All of us hasn't come from great backgrounds, all of us have struggled. I'm on e of them. It's important to give back."

Williams grew up in Liberty City, a rough neighborhood in Miami, Fla.

So, days like Tuesday offers him a reminder of where his humble beginnings.

"It's always better to give than receive and bless somebody and put a smile on somebody else's face," Williams said. "It makes you feel like a better person, a better man. I know what it's like for these guys. They just want to have a good Thanksgiving."
