The confetti has been vacuumed up in Indianapolis, so the sports book at MGM Grand in Las Vegas released its Super Bowl odds for the 2012 season. Apparently, their oddsmakers think the Ravens' championship window is narrowly open.

Two weeks after losing a close one to the New England Patriots, 23-20, in the AFC championship game, the Ravens were given 20-1 odds to win Super Bowl 47. That’s tied for 13th in the NFL with the New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys, two teams that didn’t even make the playoffs in 2011.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, whom the Ravens defeated twice this past season, were given 6-1 odds. The Houston Texans, whom they also beat twice including a win in the AFC divisional round, are at 12-1. And the San Francisco 49ers, whom they beat on Thanksgiving night and who lost in the other conference championship game, are at 10-1.

The Patriots are the favorites at 5-1, followed by the Green Bay Packers (11-2), the Steelers (6-1), the Philadelphia Eagles (6-1) and the defending champions, the New York Giants (8-1).

The folks who set the odds in Vegas are very good at what they do, but you can take this as a slight if you wish. Or you can book a flight to Vegas and bring some cash with you. The Ravens are the only team that has made the playoffs in four straight seasons and they went to the AFC title game twice, so they will probably be a popular bet at those odds.
