A second-year player who ended last season on injured reserve with a knee injury, Thompson will be eligible to return to the Ravens’ active roster on the day after the Super Bowl champions' fourth regular-season game of the 2013 season.
Thompson is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.
The NFL suspension will cost Thompson $112,941 of his $480,000 base salary, through the loss of four $28,235 game checks.
"We have been aware of this situation for some time," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement.
Thompson is a 6-foot, 211-pound reserve player from South Carolina State who played in seven games last season on special teams and recorded no statistics as a rookie.
Thompson was signed to a four-year, $2.352 million contract last year that included a $300,584 signing bonus.
A transfer from Auburn, Thompson had 141 career tackles with three interceptions, one sack, 10 pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.
