The Ravens were granted a roster exemption for Thompson through next Monday, so they don't have to make an immediate roster move to place him on the active roster from the reserve-suspended list.
The Ravens added reserve safety and special teams contributor Jeromy Miles off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals last week and plan to utilize him as soon as this week now that his hamstring injury has improved, coach John Harbaugh said Monday. It's unclear what plans the Ravens have for Thompson.
The suspension cost Thompson $112,941 of his $480,000 base salary through the loss of four $28,235 weekly game checks.
Thompson, a 2012 fourth-round draft pick from South Carolina State, played in seven games last season on special teams and recorded no statistics as a rookie.
Thompson hasn't said what he did to trigger the suspension, but cited a need to mature during an August interview with The Baltimore Sun.
"Yeah, I just got to grow up," Thompson said. "Everybody has been supporting me. Nobody has been down on me."
