Patriots rule out starting LT Nate Solder, backup WR Kenbrell Thompkins

The New England Patriots will be shorthanded at left tackle and wide receiver Sunday against the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

Starting left tackle Nate Solder (concussion) and backup rookie wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins (hip) were ruled out Saturday night. This is the third consecutive game Thompkins has missed.

Solder was limited Thursday and Friday in practice. A 2011 first-round draft pick from Colorado, the 6-foot-8, 320-pound Solder has not missed a game in his NFL career.

He left last Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins in the fourth quarter after absorbing a hit to the head.

The Patriots could shift five-time Pro Bowl left guard Logan Mankins over to left tackle, as they did against the Dolphins, and move backup rookie guard Josh Kline to left guard.

The Patriots' top backup tackle is Will Svitek.

Besides Thompkins, the Patriots had already ruled out rookie wide receiver Josh Boyce with an ankle injury.
