The New England Patriots have promoted rookie defensive lineman Marcus Forston to the active roster from the practice squad.
The Saturday roster move occupies the spot vacated when star tight end Rob Gronkowski was placed on injured reserve, ending his season due to aggravating a forearm injury against the Houston Texans.
Forston, 22, was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Miami in May.
The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder made the 53-man roster in training camp and made his regular-season NFL debut against the Ravens on Sept. 23.
Forston was cut days later and then signed to the practice squad.
Now, he's back on the roster the day before Sunday's AFC championship game against Baltimore at Gillette Stadium.
