There will be no reunion between quarterback T.J. Yates and Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
The Atlanta Falcons announced they traded for Yates on Wednesday night, acquiring him from the Houston Texans in exchange for linebacker Akeem Dent. The Falcons also agreed to a one-year contract with veteran linebacker Tim Dobbins worth $855,000
The Ravens had monitored the Yates situation all along and contemplated whether they would put in a waiver claim for him, according to sources. However, it never reached that point where the Ravens would have to make that decision since the Texans didn't formally release Yates after announcing that they would cut him.
Instead of officially releasing Yates, the Texans explored trades with several teams and wound up striking a deal with the Falcons,
The Ravens have also identified progress from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor this offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. They also drafted record-setting Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning in the sixth round.
Yates is a former Texans fifth-round draft pick who has completed 101 of 166 passes for 1,100 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions for a 71.4 quarterback rating in 13 games.
That included his rookie season when starter Matt Schaub got hurt and he went 3-3 in six games with five starts and completed 82 of 134 passes for three touchdowsns, three interceptions and an 80.7 quarterback rating.
The 6-foot-4, 217-pounder is a native of Marietta, Ga., who played collegiately at North Carolina.
