Mike Preston: What to watch during the first week of Ravens training camp
On paper, the Ravens appear to be better than last year. But no team has ever won the Lombardi Trophy in July.
Since parting ways with a number of veterans soon after the Super Bowl victory in early February, the Ravens have quietly built another contending team without the usual distractions that accompany a championship.
There have been no major offseason arrests or contract holdouts. No other teams have raided the Ravens coaching staff, and in fact, they added Juan Castillo and Steve Spagnuolo, two of the most respected coaches in the game.
But it's never easy to win a Super Bowl, and even harder to defend the title. Teams have to develop chemistry and get hot at the right time. Super Bowl champions also need to have luck, and the Ravens certainly had plenty of it a year ago.
Like most teams, the Ravens have their share of issues going into the 2013 season and there will be some key things to keep an eye on heading into training camp and the regular season.
