Rookie free safety Matt Elam has not talked to reporters since calling Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson “old” on Wednesday. But Johnson continues to take subtle jabs at Elam through the press.
Johnson told Detroit reporters on Friday that he had never heard of Elam before this week.
“Sometimes you just need to know when to keep your mouth shut but you know, he’s a rookie, he’ll learn,” said Johnson, who has 1,351 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
Asked when Elam might learn his lesson, Johnson replied, “hopefully this Monday.”
Elam said to the Associated Press on Wednesday that Johnson is “pretty old, so I don’t know how physical he’ll be."
On Thursday, Johnson addressed Elam's comments on a conference call with Baltimore reporters, saying, “It’s all good. I’ll show him what that old-man strength is all about, though.”Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
