Ravens, Flacco's agent break ice on contract talks

Joe Linta, the agent for Joe Flacco, was pleased with the first day of talks with team officials about a potential extension for the quarterback who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Linta maintained that the point of the meeting was not to start negotiating the contractual terms, but to make sure that both sides were on the same page with their interest in getting a deal done.

“We just wanted to make sure that he was really as valued as much as we thought he was,” Linta said. "It was very clear to me that everybody in their organization from the owner on down feels that way and is committed to him as their franchise quarterback. This was just confirmation for us.”

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti has said several times that extending the contract of Flacco, who has led the team to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons, is a priority this offseason.

The negotiations could take a while, but Linta, who has a good relationship with team officials, doesn’t expect them to get contentious.

"This isn’t an adversarial thing. They want him and he wants to be in Baltimore,” Linta said. “The point of the [meeting] was just to get the feeling that they really wanted to work for this and get this done. It was a good visit.”
