Lardarius Webb says back is improving, relieved it's 'nothing major'

Ravens starting cornerback Lardarius Webb expressed relief that his lower back injury isn't serious and said it's improving.

Tests revealed no structural damage to his back, according to sources.

Webb experienced back spasms during the second day of training camp a week ago, and he's been sidelined ever since that practice.

"I'm feeling better," Webb said. "Just taking a little time off to get my body right. It's nothing major, man."

Webb said he's being cautious to avoid the injury lingering. It's unclear when he'll return, but Webb is optimistic that it won't be a long-term injury and that he'll perhaps be back within the next week or so.

"I hope so," Webb said. "Just being easy."

Meanwhile, middle linebacker Daryl Smith, the Ravens' leading tackler last season, has been out since suffering a groin injury Monday night.

"I don't know when I'll be back, hopefully [Saturday]," Smith said. "It's not bad. It feels better. We're trying to work it out and step it up now."
