John Harbaugh showed his brother some mercy at the end of Thursday's preseason game

Older brother John Harbaugh must have felt some compassion for younger brother Jim on Thursday night.

Leading the San Francisco 49ers 23-3 with two minutes left in their preseason opener at M&T Bank Stadium, John ordered his Ravens into victory formation and rookie quarterback Keith Wenning took a knee on three straight snaps.

It's surprising, because in previous years John Harbaugh has always had his team play hard until the final second, saying it was unfair to the players trying to make the team if they weren't given full opportunities.

But on Thursday, he waved the white flag early. Wenning certainly didn't get his opportunities.

Perhaps John didn't want to show up Jim, the coach of the 49ers. Or maybe John knew he had to practice against the 49ers for three straight days and didn't want to wake a sleeping bear. San Francisco held out a lot of starters Thursday, including six on defense.
