Joe Flacco not concerned about contract situation

Ever since negotiations hit an impasse in August, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has maintained an approach of keeping the unresolved contract situation at arm's length.

Contract discussions between Flacco's agent, Joe Linta, and Ravens vice president of football administration Pat Moriarty have been tabled until the offseason. Flacco's rookie contract is expiring after the Super Bowl, and the two sides are "miles apart" on total value and guaranteed money, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

If a deal can't be worked out, Flacco will be retained as the Ravens' franchise player through a $14.6 million franchise tender.

"Well, it's real simple: We didn't agree on a number and I didn't really care to discuss it any further once it got to that point," Flacco said. "And the bottom line is I'm not the guy going up to their offices negotiating with them every day. It was really never a concern of mine and I never even thought about it. In the offseason, you think about it a little bit. They're really all good thoughts. It's a good problem to have and be talking about."
