Since getting an unexpected phone call Tuesday night that the Ravens were acquiring Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Eugene Monroe through a trade, offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie has handled his pending change in status well.

Although McKinnie is expected to become a backup or be traded once Monroe absorbs the playbook, he's preparing for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium.

“Bryant has handled it like a true professional," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He’s worked hard. Bryant always works hard. He’s been a professional since he’s gotten here. I feel like he’s practiced really well from Day One, throughout training camp, obviously, and through now. He’s had another good week, so he’s handled it like a pro.”

Following Monroe's arrival at team headquarters Thursday, McKinnie commented for the first time on the trade.

"I was kind of surprised, but I was told the situation," said McKinnie, who reported to training camp above his target weight of 346 pounds and has yet to qualify for any of his weekly $6,250 weight bonuses through four games. "This is business, so they're going to do what's best for their business. That's all I can say about that."

The Ravens signed McKinnie to a two-year, $6.3 million contract in May that includes a $2 million signing bonus. As a vested veteran, he has a $1 million base salary that's guaranteed for the season.

McKinnie, who visited the Dolphins and San Diego Chargers prior to re-signing with the Ravens, didn't rule out the possibility of being traded. Of course, if the Ravens traded McKinnie and something happened to Monroe or right tackle Michael Oher, they would lack an experienced backup option.

"We'll have to see," McKinnie said. "Maybe a trade. Who knows?"
