Former Baltimore Ravens Chris Carr has signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers, the team announced.

Cut by the Minnesota Vikings during their final major roster cutdown, Carr recently visited the New York Jets.

Carr was due a $2.5 million base salary and carried a $3.45 million salary-cap figure for next season before being cut by the Ravens.

Carr signed a three-year, $14 million contract with Baltimore last year that included a $3.8 million signing bonus.

"Chris is an experienced player,” Chargers coach Norv Turner said. “I was fortunate to be with him for a couple years in Oakland. He’s bounced around the league a little bit but has played at a high level. He’s been a starter in a couple of places so he brings experience. He can play in the slot and on the outside, so he’s a good addition for us.”

For his career, Carr has 209 tackles and six interceptions playing for the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans and the Ravens.

He was due base salaries of $3 million and $4 million in 2013 and 2014.

Carr dealt with hamstring and back injuries that limited him to nine games last season after starting every game the previous year.

His production dipped last season from 67 tackles, two interceptions, eight pass deflections and three forced fumbles in 2010.

Last season, he started one game and recorded 19 tackles, one sack, three pass deflections and no interceptions.

“I’m extremely excited to join the Chargers,” Carr said.  “I know a lot of coaches on this staff and a lot of players. They’re a contender and a good team that competes year after year. San Diego is a beautiful place, so I’m really excited about this opportunity.”
