It took former Ravens safety Bernard Pollard a little over a week to find a new home.
Pollard has agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, putting him back in the AFC South, his agent, Tory Dandy confirmed on Twitter this morning. Pollard, 28, played two seasons with the Houston Texans before signing with the Ravens.
In a somewhat surprising move, the Ravens released Pollard on March 13 despite the fact that he was their leading tackler this past season. The move allowed them to avoid paying a $500,000 roster bonus for him and opened up $2 million of salary cap room as Pollard was released with a June 1 designation.
At the league meetings Tuesday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said that the release of Pollard was a "cap move, pure and simple."
Over two seasons with the Ravens, Pollard started 26 games and furthered his reputation as a defensive enforcer by making a series of punishing hits. Despite playing much of last season with cracked ribs, Pollard made a team-leading 98 tackles to go along with two sacks, one interception and six passes defended in 13 games.
"I can't say enough about Baltimore," Pollard told ESPN's Josina Anderson who first reported the safety's signing with the Titans. "They were great to me and my family. I will cherish that experience and the relationships I built with the people there for the rest of my life."
With safety Ed Reed agreeing to terms on a deal with the Houston Texans last night, the Ravens are now without their two starting safeties from their Super Bowl XLVII-winning team. Veteran safety Sean Considine, who played primarily on special teams last year, is also a free agent.
They did re-sign veteran safety James Ihedigbo and are planning to bring in free agent Michael Huff, formerly of the Oakland Raiders, for a visit in the next couple of days.
Pollard visited the Titans' facility last week. When his signing becomes official, he'll join a safety group that includes Michael Griffin and George Wilson, who the Titans signed from the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason.
