For first time in more than two seasons, Marshal Yanda gets called for holding

In the span of two quarters, Marshal Yanda was cited for something he hadn’t done in the previous two seasons.

The starting right guard was flagged for holding in the third and fourth quarters of the Ravens’ 31-30 win against the New England Patriots Sunday night at M&T Bank Stadium. Yanda had completed the 2010 and 2011 campaigns without drawing a holding penalty, according to Pro Football Weekly.

After the team’s walkthrough Monday, Yanda expressed surprise at the holding calls.

“I try not to get them obviously, and stuff happens,” he said before suggesting that the replacement officials may have erred in their assessment. “There’s no doubt. I didn’t get a holding penalty last year, and I got two in one game.”
