Bobby Rainey sure looked like he wanted to make the team.
There's no guarantee the Ravens will carry a third running back behind Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. That's in part because they plan to use two fullbacks, Vonta Leach and rookie Kyle Juszczyk -- an unusual choice in the modern NFL.
But Rainey made the kinds of plays coaches love against the St. Louis Rams. In the first quarter, he took a handoff on first-and-goal and appeared stymied twice by walls of defenders. Rainey kept his legs chugging and finally pushed into the end zone on his third surge.
Just before halftime, he did it again, fighting through a hit to score a second touchdown.
The second-year man from Western Kentucky faces long odds, given the overall running back picture and competition from Anthony Allen and Delone Carter. But if any runner made plays that will stick in Harbaugh's mind on cut day, it was Rainey.
