On Friday, Lee Evans insisted that he could line up in his usual spot as one of the Ravens’ two starting wide receivers despite a nagging left ankle injury.

But Evans spoke before the team ruled him out in its final injury report of the week. And after Sunday’s 37-7 thumping of the St. Louis Rams, Evans said he agreed with the decision to sit.

“It was one of those things where I could see it both ways,” said Evans, who did not practice last week. “The goal is to get healthy, and we came to the conclusion that I probably wasn’t going to get all the way healthy by playing on it. So resting it is the best way to go, and hopefully, we can clear it up.”

Evans, who has caught just two passes for 45 yards, said he thinks the ankle is improving.

“It does feel better,” he said. “The rest definitely helps it feel better. So hopefully, we can get it to the point where it feels good enough to play on. That’s really the goal.”

So does that mean that Evans will be available for Sunday night’s nationally-televised showdown with the New York Jets at M&T Bank Stadium? Evans wouldn’t go that far.

“It’s still too early to say,” he said. “We’re just going to take it day by day like we have been doing. So we’ll see.”
