Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was not at the final day of the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp today, but he has a pretty legit excuse. He and his wife, Dana, welcomed their first child into the world. Stephen Vincent Flacco is listed at eight pounds. Flacco missed Wednesday’s workout, too, after Dana went into labor.
Also absent was free safety Ed Reed, who has now missed the entire three-day camp and is subject to up to $72,000 in fines for not attending. The 34-year-old Pro Bowl safety is the lone unexcused absence this week.
Excused from practice were offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie (conditioning), center Matt Birk (minor leg surgery), defensive end Pernell McPhee (injury), and running back Ray Rice (because he isn’t under contract).
Wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who landed awkwardly on his lower right leg yesterday and left the field, is also not here. We won’t know the official reason until after practice, but it is assumed that he tweaked his leg.
Also present at the facility somewhere but not expected to fully participate in practice are running back Bernard Pierce, receivers David Reed and Tandon Doss, cornerback Cary Williams, offensive linemen Kelechi Osemele and Howard Barbieri, and linebacker Terrell Suggs. Suggs will speak at the podium after practice.
Update (1:40 p.m.): Offensive lineman Jah Reid was just carted off the field. His right leg was up on the cart. An assistant then helped Reid gingerly walk inside the building. We should have more information after practice.
