Dennis Pitta excels in losing cause against Broncos

Although it happened in a losing cause, tight end Dennis Pitta reached a career milestone Sunday.

Pitta set career-highs with 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a 61-yard score where he navigated the right sideline in the fourth quarter.

In a 34-17 loss, the former Brigham Young standout finished with seven receptions for the second-highest total of his career.

"In that situation, it's always tough," Pitta said. "We just keep battling. It wasn't looking good, obviously at that point in the ballgame. There's no quit in this team.

"We're not going to stop playing. We're going to keep going out and trying to put points on the board as best we can."

The Ravens switched offensive coordinators a week ago, firing Cam Cameron and replacing him with quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell.

The results were far from ideal Sunday, as quarterback Joe Flacco committed two turnovers with an interception returned 98 yards for a touchdown and a lost fumble on a quarterback sneak.

"I don’t think it’s a concern," Pitta said when asked about the Ravens' problems. "We’ve just got to be able to learn from this loss and the last two and do what we can to prepare ourselves and get a little bit better. This was kind of a crazy week for us, with all that went down, but bottom line is we just didn’t execute as well as we would have liked throughout that ballgame, and especially early on. We had too many mistakes and put our defense in bad situations. We’ve just got to get a little bit better."

Pitta dropped passes early in the game when the outcome was being decided.

"Well, fortunately for us, there wasn’t a whole lot of turnover in the staff. You know, position coaches are the same. That gives us a little bit of consistency from last week to this week. There’s always going to be a learning curve, a little bit of an adjustment."
