The undrafted rookie from Florida is one of the fastest players on the team and has a legitimate shot to make the team as the sixth wide receiver and backup kick returner behind Jacoby Jones. Thompson has displayed his rare speed, averaging 52.5 yards per kickoff return and catching one touchdown. Although he trails LaQuan Williams and Tandon Doss on the depth chart, Thompson is an intriguing player for the future and the Ravens might not want to expose him to waivers before trying to place him on the practice squad. Plus, he could bolster their depth in case of injuries. Thompson might need another big play or two to assure himself of a spot. The Ravens could also opt to not showcase him against the Rams, which would make it easier to get him through waivers and onto their practice squad.
