Patriots' Bill Belichick fined $50,000 for contact with official

It was an expensive grab for New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Belichick was fined $50,000 by NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson for impermissible physical contact with an official at the end of the Ravens' 31-30 win over the Patriots on Sunday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

Belichick grabbed and confronted an official following Ravens rookie kicker Justin Tucker's game-winning 27-yard field goal.

"It was inappropriate for me to contact the official," Belichick said in a statement. "I take responsibility for what happened. I accept the discipline and I apologize for the incident Sunday night in Baltimore."

Meanwhile, Anderson determined that Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who wasn't fined for his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for bumping an official when he was trying to get his attention to call a timeout, didn't violate a rule prohibiting abuse of game officials.

Meanwhile, Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was fined $25,000 for verbally abusing an official after the Cincinnati Bengals game.
