Ravens need to keep underdog mentality

Ravens coach John Harbaugh should continue to play up the underdog role heading into the AFC championship game Sunday.

It worked Saturday against Denver and will work next week as well. The Ravens aren’t physically superior to any team that they play, and they lack the big-name superstar that can take over a game.

Both linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed still have name recognition, but they are far from being dominant players.

The Ravens have a couple of things going for them. They play and believe in the team concept and they want to get Lewis back to the Super Bowl. Just as important, they have a chip on their shoulders because the Ravens and Texans were the two least favorite teams to make it to the Super Bowl of the eight remaining teams in the AFC and NFC Divisional playoffs.

To be an underdog is a coach’s paradise. Harbaugh should milk it to the end.
