Ed Reed hires agent David Dunn

Ravens veteran free safety Ed Reed is no longer his own agent.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year has hired California-based agent David Dunn to represent him, according to a league source. Reed has been without an agent for the past few years after firing his previous representative.

Reed, 34, is an unrestricted free agent who's expected to draw interest from teams, including the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. Reed was recruited to the University of Miami by Colts coach Chuck Pagano, who also coached him in Baltimore as the Ravens' defensive coordinator and secondary coach. They remain extremely close, and one of Reed's best friends since college is Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne.

Belichick and Reed have formed a mutual admiration society over the years, a bond strengthened when the Patriots' legend coached Reed at the Pro Bowl.

The door isn't closed with the Ravens, though, and general manager Ozzie Newsome has expressed confidence about holding onto the nine-time Pro Bowl selection.

It's never been regarded as a lock that Reed will return to Baltimore even though he's stated that's his preference several times.

"I'm a Raven, I plan on being a Raven," Reed recently told NFL Network. " I couldn't see me anywhere else right now. If it happens, I'm a football player. I can adapt to any situation."

Reed intercepted a pass in a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, winning the big game in his home state of Louisiana.

"What I think happens with him will be similar to how the Ravens handled Ray Lewis where they didn't make him an immediate priority and let him check out the market with the Dallas Cowboys and look around, and then he came back," said former sports agent Joel Corry, who writes about the business side of the NFL for National Football Post. "With Ed Reed, I don't know if it will turn out that way because of his history with other coaches like Chuck Pagano having coached him in college and with the Ravens."
